How To Create A PodcastReady to create a podcast but not sure where to start? In this video, Steve walks you through the equipment you need to record, edit, and launch your brand new podcast.

Steve Dotto is one of North America’s best technology experts and I have loved his advice and tutorials so much that I have been stalking him online for years. I’m just kidding, but I have followed his work and Steve is a treasure and a fantastic resource.

This tutorial will help you even if you’re new to podcasting and have no idea where to start.

8 Ways You Can Monetize Your Podcast

  1. Selling digital products. This could include online courses that you create on Udemy, Thinkific, Teachable, etc., ebooks, or software.
  2. Physical products. These include selling T-shirts (on Amazon Merch or Teespring), or let’s say you have a fitness lifestyle podcast, then you could sell your own private label supplements.
  3. Selling affiliate products. This is a way for you to sell a product or products that you did not create nor do you have to ship for a commission. Good affiliate programs to start with include Amazon Associates and Clickbank.
  4. Ads and sponsorships.
  5. Personal coaching/consulting. Personally teach people to accomplish goals in an area that you have knowledge or experience.
  6. Joint ventures. This is where you and another podcaster agree to be a guest on each other’s respective podcasts to promote let’s say a book for this example, but there are many other types of promotional swaps. This is a good way to promote what you are selling for free.
  7. Once you build an audience the possibility of hosting live events for your followers becomes a real possibility and also a better way connect with the followers of your podcast.
  8. Use Patreon. Patreon is a crowdfunding site where you can direct followers that love your content if they would like to support the work you do and the value your podcast provides them. A good way to use Patreon is to make special content that your podcast listeners can “unlock” when they support you through the Patreon website which is already set up to do just that for you automatically.

Podcasting Best Practices

Popular Subjects In Podcasting

Often the best subject to start your podcast in would be something you have experience with, knowledge in, and a subject that you find interesting. After all, you don’t want to become bored with your podcast only one or two months into producing it. Adding variety within your niche will help you from becoming monotonous and boring your listeners.

That said, here are some good ideas for a money-making podcast:

  • Fitness and weight loss.
  • General health.
  • Wealth building and investing
  • Dating and relationships
  • Making money online
  • Pets & pet training
  • Entrepreneurship and small business advice
  • Gadgets and technology
  • Self improvement
  • Personal finance and budgeting

Conclusion

Podcasting is a great way to build an audience, plus it’s an easy platform to get comfortable with since you are not appearing on camera. If you misspeak or have a brain block or fart unexpectedly while recording there’s no problem, you just edit that part out!

Remember to post out your latest episodes on social media. YouTube (with an image for the video, this could be you or your studio, you on mic, your podcast logo/art, etc) Facebook, Twitter, and you can imbed your podcasts on a WordPress website (which I highly recommend doing), also you can embed podcast episodes that you have uploaded to YouTube on your site.

Thanks for reading everyone and as always good luck in all your endeavors.
